About / Our Weather Model

Building toward a new approach to atmospheric prediction.

TARL is working toward developing its own atmospheric modeling capabilities as part of its broader research and forecasting program. The work is still in development, with the scientific framework continuing to take shape.

Why Build a Model?

Developing prediction capabilities around TARL's research.

TARL's interest in atmospheric modeling extends beyond simply producing another weather forecast. The long-term goal is to investigate how atmospheric prediction can work alongside the observations, instrumentation, and research being developed throughout the laboratory.

Building this capability internally also provides a framework for testing scientific ideas, investigating atmospheric processes, and developing forecasting methods as TARL's research program grows.

What We're Working Toward

A modeling framework built around scientific questions.

01

Atmospheric Understanding

Developing the ability to investigate and represent atmospheric processes through a dedicated modeling framework.

02

Terrain & Environment

Exploring how terrain and local environmental structure can be incorporated into future atmospheric prediction work.

03

Research-Driven Development

Allowing the modeling system to evolve alongside TARL's observations, research, and growing scientific capabilities.

The Model

The model comes with the research.

TARL's weather-modeling capabilities are still being developed. The final structure and capabilities of the modeling system will be determined through continued scientific development, testing, and validation.

As the system matures, additional information about its architecture, methods, evaluation, and applications will be documented.
