TARL believes that meaningful atmospheric research begins with meaningful observations. The laboratory is working toward developing observational capabilities designed around the questions its research seeks to answer.

Why Instrumentation Matters

Observations are the foundation of atmospheric research.

Atmospheric conditions can change substantially across relatively small distances and time periods. Understanding those changes requires observations that are appropriate for the environment and the research question being studied.

For TARL, instrumentation is therefore more than a way to collect measurements. It is part of the scientific foundation that allows atmospheric processes to be observed, investigated, and ultimately better understood.

Our Approach

TARL's long-term instrumentation approach is centered on developing observational systems that can adapt to the needs of individual research projects.

Rather than treating instrumentation as a fixed system, TARL intends to develop tools that can be configured and deployed according to the environment, measurements, and scientific questions being investigated.

In Development

The TARL instrumentation program is still taking shape.

TARL is currently developing and evaluating concepts for future observational systems. Specific instruments, platforms, and deployment methods will be introduced as they progress through development and testing.

The goal is to establish reliable observational capabilities that can support TARL's future research programs and field investigations.
