About / Our Research
TARL's research is centered on understanding atmospheric processes through observation, analysis, experimentation, and the development of new scientific tools and approaches.
What Drives Our Research
TARL was founded around the idea that a deeper understanding of the atmosphere requires more than simply observing what happens. It requires understanding why atmospheric behavior develops the way it does and how that behavior changes across different environments.
This includes an interest in atmospheric processes, severe weather, climatology, complex terrain, observations, instrumentation, modeling, and forecasting.
The goal is not simply to produce more data, but to develop better ways of understanding and using it.

Building the Foundation
TARL is currently developing the scientific and technical foundations that future research programs will depend on.
This includes research datasets, observational systems, instrumentation, terrain and landscape classification methods, atmospheric modeling, forecasting systems, and analytical tools.
Many of these capabilities remain in development and are being tested and refined as TARL's research program grows.

As TARL's observational capabilities, instrumentation, scientific methods, computational systems, and research community develop, the scope of its research will grow with them.
The long-term goal is to build an integrated research environment in which observations, instrumentation, atmospheric analysis, modeling, and forecasting can inform one another.
